SJ ranked among best burger cities

The venerable travel magazine ranked San Juan as the fifth “Best Burger City in America.”

It noted that the Puerto Rican capital has been on a bit of a roll among foodies.

“The romantic island city catapulted from next-to-last place last year to this year’s top 5. It’s not just the burgers, either: this year, readers applauded the local foodie renaissance, giving it first place for both its ethnic cuisine and street food,” Travel+Leisure said.

The magazine spotlighted two longtime favorites among local and visiting burger hinters.

“For great burger, locals swear by a few old standbys: El Hamburger, a shack on the oceanfront drive outside the city, or El Patio de Sam, in Old San Juan,” Travel+Leisure said.

The top burger city was Providence, Rhode Island. Finishing just ahead of San Juan were Philadelphia, Chicago and Houston.
