Sartorius opens $20M unit at Yauco site
The $20 million, 53,000-square foot expansion is geared toward boosting production of filtration systems for the biotechnology industry. It includes space for two new clean rooms for filter and bag manufacture, labs and offices.
Sartorius plans to move bag manufacturing operations from California to the Yauco site by the end of the year. It expects to nearly double employees at the Puerto Rico facility to 120 workers.
The opening comes more than a year after CARIBBEAN BUSINESS online first reported on the expansion.
Sartorius Stedim Biotech set up shop in Yauco in 1982. The operation ranges over four Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co. buildings covering a total of 87,000 square feet.
Sartorius Stedim Biotech is a unit of Germany-based Sartorius AG.
