PR gymnast Ramos makes rings final
Ramos scored a 15.50, coming in second in his group behind China’s Chen Yibling, who won Olympic gold in the event in Beijing in 2008.
“I’m right there with the champion,” Ramos said.
The Bayamón native’s solid and clean routine was cheered by a group of Puerto Rican fans at the North Greenwich Arena.
The rings final is scheduled for Monday, August 6. That is the same day Puerto Rican speedster Javier Culson will make his hotly anticipated run for gold in the 400-meter hurdles.
The strong performance by Ramos, who also competes for Penn State University, marks the third Olympics that Puerto Rican men gymnasts have made it into the finals. Luis Felipe “Tingue” Vargas made the all-around final in Athens in 2004. Luis Rivera followed suit in Beijing.
